Tyler Rogovay, Editor-in-Chief of The War Zone, highlighted that Ukrainian air defense units are not only skillfully operating the American Patriot missile systems but are also actively involved in advancing their development.
He wrote about this in X.
According to expert Tyler Rogovay, the unique combat experience gained by Ukrainian air defense forces under massive Russian attacks has led to significant technological advancements in the Patriot missile system.
Rogovay pointed out that several software updates and hardware improvements were introduced after analyzing how Ukrainian forces deployed the system in real combat conditions.
“Ukrainians were the first in the world to demonstrate that the Patriot is capable of intercepting Kinzhal-type aeroballistic missiles, which were previously considered nearly invulnerable,” he wrote.
This involves a modified version of the PAC-3 system, designed to intercept high-speed targets such as Iskander missiles and North Korean KN-23s, which Russia has been deploying in its war against Ukraine.
While Middle Eastern countries — including Saudi Arabia — have also contributed to the development of Patriot capabilities, it is Ukrainian air defense personnel who have provided the most dynamic “field-based” enhancements, now setting a global benchmark for modern warfare effectiveness.
In light of this, Ukraine has proposed to the American Patriot manufacturer the establishment of production cooperation and maintenance hubs on Ukrainian territory. This would enable further adaptation of the system to emerging threats and help reduce logistical delays.
By the way, Ukraine can count on receiving old Patriot air defense systems, one of which was transferred by Israel to the United States for restoration. However, as of now, this system has not yet arrived in Ukraine.
Recall that earlier the United States of America approved the transfer by Germany of 125 long-range artillery missiles and 100 missiles for the Patriot air defense system to Ukraine.
