The Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 was flying flight AI171 to London Gatwick Airport. The cause of the crash is not yet known. However, aviation experts and officials have four possible scenarios that could have led to the plane crash almost immediately after takeoff.
This is reported by India Today.
Boeing’s 787-8 series aircraft had a flawless safety record until the crash of Air India Flight AI171. While the black box is expected to provide some definitive answers, aviation experts and officials have identified four likely scenarios that could have led to the wide-body jet crash almost immediately after takeoff.
One possible cause could have been an engine or powerplant failure, supported by eyewitness accounts and flight tracking data that indicate the plane struggled to climb from the moment it took off. Analysts believe that a sudden loss of thrust in one or both engines, caused by a catastrophic mechanical failure, a flash of flame, or fuel system problems, could have left the crew with little time and control.
Aviation experts and former pilots who flew to Ahmedabad believe that a bird strike or multiple bird strikes could be a very likely cause of the plane crash.
Other possible causes include problems with the aircraft’s hydraulics, flight control systems or electronics, which could be a major disaster if they occur during takeoff, leaving pilots with minimal time to correct their course.
A fourth potential, but less likely, cause of a plane crash, at least for now, is pilot error or a system configuration problem.
Recall, on Thursday, June 12, an Air India plane with more than 200 people on board crashed near the airport in the western Indian city of Ahmedabad.
As reported, according to police, all 242 people on board, including the crew, died.
