Aliyev accused Russia of deliberate attacks on the Azerbaijani embassy in Kyiv

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has accused Russia of deliberately targeting his country’s diplomatic missions in Kyiv. Russia has denied the allegations, saying the damage could have been caused by Ukrainian air defenses.

He spoke about this during the Munich Security Conference.

It is worth adding that Aliyev made this statement during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. According to the Azerbaijani president, his country’s embassy in Kyiv has been hit three times since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

“Later, we provided the Russian side with the coordinates of the diplomatic missions of Azerbaijan, the consular department, the cultural center and the embassy. After that, two more attacks occurred. Which gives reason to believe that these are deliberate attacks on the diplomatic missions of Azerbaijan ,” said Ilham Aliyev.

The Russian Foreign Ministry responded to Baku’s statements and noted that it was not involved in the damage to diplomatic institutions. The department stated that the damage could have been caused by a Patriot anti-aircraft missile system falling as a result of Ukrainian air defense.

The Russian Foreign Ministry also emphasized that during hostilities, the Russian armed forces allegedly strike “exclusively at legitimate military targets.”

Recall that in November 2025, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev condemned Russia’s night strike on Ukraine, which damaged the Azerbaijani embassy .

It was reported at the time that Kyiv had experienced a large-scale combined drone and missile attack on the night of November 14. The shelling killed one person, injured more than two dozen others, and caused numerous fires and significant destruction in various areas of the capital.
