Polish President Karol Nawrocki and US President Donald Trump spoke by phone after Russian drones violated Polish airspace overnight, reaffirming their shared commitment to addressing security challenges.
He twitted about this in X.
According to Nawrocki, the negotiations focused on the repeated intrusions of Russian drones into Polish airspace on Wednesday night.
The Polish President emphasized that his contacts with his American counterpart are part of broader consultations with allies, aimed at ensuring the country’s security and strengthening regional stability.
“We confirmed the unity of our positions and our readiness to act together,” Nawrocki noted.
Earlier, Donald Trump publicly reacted to the situation for the first time.
“What kind of violation of Polish airspace by Russia with drones is this? Well, that’s it!” the US president wrote in a short post.
Although the American leader did not provide further details, the White House confirmed that Washington is closely monitoring the situation.
Earlier reports indicated that Trump and Nawrocki had planned to discuss the incident before the official conversation. This contact served as another signal that the United States and Poland are coordinating their actions in response to Russia’s aggressive moves.
As a reminder, after a group of Russian drones entered the airspace of Poland, a NATO member state, a number of Western governments expressed solidarity and concern. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson condemned the violation of Poland’s border by Russian drones, calling it an “unacceptable act.” Latvian President Edgars Rinkėvičius also issued a statement, emphasizing Poland’s full support. In his opinion, such incidents indicate that Russia’s war against Ukraine has direct consequences for the security of neighboring states. Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide described the situation as “deeply worrying,” emphasizing that Norway stands shoulder to shoulder with Poland and other NATO allies.
As reported, on the night of September 9-10, the situation in Eastern Europe escalated again – Russia launched a massive strike on the territory of Ukraine, while a number of enemy drones crossed the air border of Poland. This forced Warsaw to activate air defense forces and use aviation. So last night, 19 Russian drones violated Polish airspace. Polish air defense forces were able to eliminate only four of them. It should be added that later, in addition to seven drones, a missile fragment was also found on Polish territory.
