Almost 300,000 cases of SZCh and desertion have been opened in Ukraine.

Since the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine, law enforcement officials have opened 289,600 criminal cases for unauthorized absence from a military unit (UAMU) and desertion.

This is stated in the response of the Office of the Prosecutor General to a request from Ukrainska Pravda.

In particular, from January 2022 to September 2025, 235,646 cases of SZCh and 53,954 cases of desertion were registered.

For comparison, in the period from January 2022 to September 2024, the number of such cases was significantly lower – about 90 thousand: 60 thousand for the SZCh and 30 thousand for desertion.

According to the OGP, from 2022 to July 2025 alone, more than 185,000 cases of unauthorized departure from a military unit and more than 50,000 cases of desertion were opened in Ukraine.

Earlier, the Rada reinstated criminal liability for SZCh.
