Already 17 medals: Ukraine won silver in the ski relay at the 2026 Paralympics

The Ukrainian team won a silver medal in the mixed relay in para-skiing at the 2026 Paralympic Games in Milan-Cortina. This award became the 17th medal of the Ukrainian team at the current Paralympics.

This was reported by the Paralympic Committee of Ukraine.

10 teams took part in the 4×2.5 km mixed relay competition. Ukraine was represented by Pavlo Bal, Taras Rad, Oleksandra Kononova and Lyudmila Lyashenko. According to the rules of the relay, each athlete covered a distance of 2.5 km, after which he passed the baton to the next participant.

Pavlo Bal was the first to start from the Ukrainian team. After completing his stage, he passed the baton to the third, and the gap from the leader was just over 25 seconds.

Taras Rad performed in the second stage. The Ukrainian athlete reduced the gap and managed to bring the team to an intermediate first place.

The third stage was led by Oleksandra Kononova. She maintained the Ukrainian team’s lead before the final stretch of the distance.

The finisher was Lyudmila Lyashenko. She was in first place for most of her stage, but in the final meters of the distance, the Ukrainian team was overtaken by the US team.

In the end, the victory went to the USA team with a result of 23:24.2 . Ukraine took 2nd place with a result of 23:36.7 , 12.5 seconds behind. The bronze medal went to the Chinese team with a result of 23:56.5 .

This is Ukraine’s first medal in para-skiing at the 2026 Paralympic Games. Before that, Ukrainian athletes had won awards at these Games only in para-biathlon.

After this race, the total number of awards of the Ukrainian national team at the 2026 Paralympics increased to 17. Previously, Ukrainian athletes had 16 medals:

• 3 gold
• 6 silver
• 7 bronze

In particular, on March 13, the Ukrainian team won 6 medals in the para-biathlon sprint pursuit discipline:

• Taras Rad — silver medal in the sitting class
• Iryna Bui — silver medal in the standing class
• Oleksandra Kononova — bronze medal in the standing class
• Hryhoriy Vovchynskyi — silver medal in the standing class
• Oleksandr Kazik — silver medal in the class of athletes with visual impairment
• Anatoliy Kovalevskyi — bronze medal in the class of athletes with visual impairment

Following the results of Day 7 of the 2026 Paralympic Games in Milan-Cortina, the Ukrainian national team took 7th place in the medal standings. In total, 63 sets of awards were played during this period, and medals were won by representatives of 26 countries.

It was previously reported that Ukrainian athletes won three medals in the parabiathlon sprint pursuit at the 2026 Paralympic Games . The team’s assets were added to two silver and one bronze medals.
