Ammunition explosion in Myla, Kyiv region: SBU official taken into custody

A suspect has emerged in the case of the detonation of ammunition in the village of Myla, Kyiv region. The State Bureau of Investigation believes that an SBU official failed to provide proper conditions for the storage of artillery ammunition.
The State Bureau of Investigation reported this on September 10.
Suspicion was raised against the head of one of the SBU security units, who was responsible for the arrangement and operation of the ammunition depot in Myla.
According to the investigation, when choosing a location for the warehouse, the official agreed to locate it in the premises of a former vegetable storage facility. At the same time, he allegedly failed to take all necessary measures to ensure the safe storage of explosives and ammunition.
The State Bureau of Investigation noted that the warehouse was located near residential buildings, and the premises themselves did not meet the requirements for storing weapons.
Also, according to the investigation, the location of the warehouse was not coordinated with the relevant law enforcement agencies and air defense units. The official, according to investigators, also did not do enough to prevent the simultaneous destruction of a large amount of ammunition in the event of an enemy strike.
The official is charged with inaction of military authorities under martial law under Part 4 of Article 426 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The Pechersky District Court of Kyiv chose for him a preventive measure in the form of detention with the possibility of posting bail.
If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. The final assessment of the suspect’s actions will be given by the court and the investigation.
It was previously reported that at least 27 people were killed in the village of Myla in the Kyiv region as a result of a Russian attack and subsequent detonation of ammunition.
In addition, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the first hit in the village of Myla in the Kyiv region was a storage site for shells, mines, other ammunition, and drones of the Defense Forces , “which should not have been near people.”
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine emphasized the inadmissibility of placing ammunition depots and other military facilities near civilian buildings and recalled the current ban of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
