Ammunition factory catches fire in Slovakia: what is known

A fire broke out on September 16 in the Slovak city of Snina at the ZVS Holding enterprise, which produces ammunition. All employees were evacuated, and there were no injuries.

This is reported by the Slovak publication Noviny.sk.

The fire broke out on the roof of a production building on Stroyarska Street. Thick black smoke rose above the enterprise. 16 firefighters and seven pieces of equipment were involved in extinguishing the fire.

Local authorities recommended that residents of nearby areas limit their time outdoors, close windows and doors, and turn off air conditioners and ventilation systems.

The fire was later contained. All employees of the enterprise were evacuated, and no one was injured.

Slovak Defense Minister Robert Kaliniak said the fire likely occurred during the building’s renovation.

“The reconstruction of the workshop is underway there, and during the renovation work, a fire probably broke out,” he said.

According to the minister, the fire did not affect production equipment, and there was no production in the part of the building where the fire broke out at the time. Kaliniak suggested that welding work could have been the cause of the fire, but the investigation will have to establish the final conclusions.

The company has temporarily suspended production at the affected part of the plant. CSG said it does not expect the incident to impact its customer service.

ZVS Holding produces, in particular, components for 155-mm artillery ammunition . The enterprise in Snyn manufactures shell casings.
