Ukraine has to spend 31% of its GDP on the war against Russia, which is the highest figure in the world.

Thiswas announced by the Chairwoman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Budget, Roksolana Pidlasa.

One day of war against Russia costs the Ukrainian budget $172 million. At the same time, last year, $140 million was allocated daily.

In particular, the expenses include salaries for military personnel, ammunition, weapons, as well as support for wounded soldiers, families of the dead and missing.

According to Pidlasa, Ukraine covers the amount with its own revenues and domestic borrowings.

Last year, Russia spent $150 billion on the war, while Ukraine’s defense needs next year will amount to at least $120 billion.

“We aim to provide at least $120 billion for Ukraine’s defense next year. This amount includes money from the Ukrainian state budget ($60 billion) and military supplies of weapons and ammunition through the Ramstein platform, PURL, SAFE, the Danish model and others ($60 billion),” the official explained.

She called on partners to allow the use of direct budget support for defense needs, as until now only the United Kingdom has allowed its contributions to the Ukrainian budget to be used for military procurement.

“I think it will be much easier and more politically acceptable to do this with Russian money, rather than with EU taxpayers’ money. That is why the idea of the “Reparation Loan” announced by the President of the European Commission – or any other plan that would help Ukraine cover its defense needs – is more than appropriate,” Pidlasa is convinced.

Let us remind you that, despite the lack of funding for the war, which amounts to about UAH 300 billion by the end of the year , the government continues to launch new social programs – grants for sole proprietors, cashbacks, “Student Packages”, and resilience centers.
