An abandoned cargo ship, hit by a drone near Odessa, is drifting in the Black Sea.

The cargo ship EMIL was discovered drifting without a crew on board in the Black Sea, approximately 40 km east of the Bulgarian Cape Shabla.

It was reported that on August 5, a drone struck the vessel in Odessa. Due to a fire and damage to its technical systems, the EMIL lost the opportunity to maneuver, forcing the crew to abandon ship.

After this, the vessel drifted for a long time in Romania’s economic zone. Sea currents subsequently carried it south toward the Bulgarian coast.

The abandoned ship was discovered by Bulgarian Navy helicopters. Bulgarian military personnel warned vessels in the area about the uncontrollable vessel.

The Bulgarian Navy currently continues to monitor EMIL and states its readiness to “take necessary measures.”
