An aerial confrontation between the US and China took place over the Yellow Sea

US and Chinese fighter jets engaged in a brief aerial confrontation over the Yellow Sea.

This was reported by Yonhap, citing the South Korean military.

The incident occurred on February 18 during a training flight by US F-16s from Osan Air Base in the west of the Korean Peninsula. The planes were performing missions over international waters of the Yellow Sea.

When American fighter jets entered the area between the air defense identification zones of South Korea and China, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army scrambled its own fighter aircraft.

Seoul called the situation a brief air confrontation and stressed that no combat clash occurred. The command of the US contingent in Korea informed the South Korean military about the training flight in advance, but did not disclose details of the maneuvers.

The South Korean Defense Ministry and the US side are not releasing details. The Chinese defense and foreign affairs departments have not commented publicly on the incident.

The agency notes that the incident occurred against the backdrop of discussions in the United States regarding a possible review of the role of the American contingent in South Korea and an increased emphasis on deterring China.

It was previously reported that Russia has tripled the production of ballistic missiles for the Iskander-M operational-tactical complexes thanks to the supply of components from China.
