An asteroid is flying towards Earth: is it dangerous?

Asteroid 1997 QK1 will fly past Earth on July 20. It is considered potentially dangerous.

This was reported by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL).

As scientists noted, the asteroid is 322.5 meters long. The distance from the asteroid to the Earth will be about 3.01 million km.

If an asteroid approaches Earth at a distance of less than 7.5 million km and its size exceeds 150 m, NASA considers it a “potentially hazardous object”.

The 1997 object QK1 fits both parameters simultaneously.

Earlier , the 2003 asteroid AY2 flew close to Earth . It was also considered potentially dangerous.
