An attempt was made on the commander of the Charter, Ihor Obolensky: the attacker and accomplice were detained

An attempt was made on the commander of the 13th brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine “Charter” Ihor Obolensky on July 31. The attacker and his accomplice have already been detained, and procedural actions are underway to establish all the circumstances.

This was announced by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.

According to the president, Oleksandr Poklad reported the attempted assassination to him. Law enforcement officers have now detained the attacker and his accomplice, and are conducting the necessary procedural actions to establish all the circumstances of the incident.

“Ukraine will definitely respond to this attempted attack on the Ukrainian commander. I thanked Igor for his service and wished him to strike the occupiers even harder,” the president said.

The 2nd Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine “Charter” confirmed the information about the attempted assassination attempt and thanked for the support in a comment to “RBK-Ukraine” . They emphasized that they are ready to confront the enemy both on the front line and in the rear, and the response to this assassination attempt will be on the battlefield.

It is worth adding that Ihor Obolensky is a colonel of the National Guard of Ukraine, Hero of Ukraine and commander of the 2nd Corps of the National Guard “Charter”. Previously, he headed the 13th Brigade “Charter”, which participated in battles in the Kharkiv region and other directions. In July 2026, Volodymyr Zelensky awarded him the title of Hero of Ukraine with the Order of the Golden Star for outstanding services in the defense of the state.

As previously reported, law enforcement officers of the National Police exposed and detaineda Russian agent who was preparing to assassinate an official of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. The perpetrator is currently detained and is in custody.

Subsequently, law enforcement officers detained another person involved in the case of preparing an assassination attempt on the representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense and Deputy Head of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, Andriy Yusov. This is a 34-year-old former serviceman, whom the investigation considers to be an intermediary between the customer and the potential perpetrator of the crime.
