American company Paramount is stopping broadcasting some MTV channels in the UK and other European countries. Thus, after December 31, 2025, five channels will not operate in the UK: MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV and MTV Live. Only the flagship MTV HD will remain, writes BBC News.
According to Broadband TV News , by the end of 2025, MTV’s thematic channels will cease broadcasting in other European countries, including Austria, Belgium, Hungary, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Poland.
Paramount has not yet officially commented on the news of the suspension of broadcasting, but representatives of European television platform operators have confirmed this information.
According to BBC News, this move indicates a change in viewer habits – music videos are now mostly watched on YouTube and social networks, rather than on television.
MTV channels are going to be shut down not only in Europe, but also in Brazil and Australia, writes BBC News, recalling that the media holding announced plans to cut costs worldwide by $500 million.
