On the morning of September 2, an explosion occurred at the Augsburg Central Station in Germany, injuring two Ukrainian citizens — a 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old boy. Later, another suspicious object was found near the main entrance to the station, but it did not explode.
This is reported by Bild.
According to police, the Ukrainians happened to be near the explosion site. They suffered minor injuries. The blast wave also damaged windows near the station.
The incident occurred at around 3:15 a.m. in a passageway near the station. According to preliminary information from German media, an object resembling a hand grenade may have exploded.
Later, law enforcement officers discovered a second suspicious object near the main entrance to the station. It did not explode. Specialists from the explosives department of the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office were sent to the scene.
Augsburg Central Station was temporarily closed due to the investigation. Train traffic in the area was suspended. Restrictions were also in place for road and public transport near the station.
Law enforcement officers are investigating the circumstances under which the explosives ended up near the station. German media also report that the investigation is examining a possible connection between the incident and organized crime. However, there are no final conclusions on this at this time.
As a reminder, several improvised explosive and incendiary devices were discovered in the federal state of Brandenburg, near the Jenschwalde coal-fired power plant. Law enforcement officers are investigating a possible attempt to damage energy infrastructure.
As reported,Germany officially declared Russia responsible for the attempted sabotage at Leipzig/Halle airport. In early August, a drone with explosives was found near a Ukrainian cargo plane.
In addition, two disturbing incidents occurred in Germany overnight: an unidentified object exploded at Augsburg’s main train station, injuring two people, and at a substation near Cologne, police suspected deliberate damage to equipment.
It should be noted that Germany has announced tough measures in response to the Russian attack on planes at Leipzig airport. Berlin plans to close the Russian consulate in Bonn and the cultural center “Russian House” in Berlin.
