An unknown drone carrying explosives crashed in Romania: what is known
A damaged drone with explosives was found in an agricultural field in Vaslui County, Romania. The device was found near the border with Moldova. Its origin has not yet been determined.
This is reported by Digi24.
The drone was spotted by a local resident in the commune of Viișoara on the morning of September 1. The distance from the place of discovery to the Moldovan border is about 30 kilometers.
The man reported the drone to law enforcement. Police and gendarmes surrounded the area and set up a security perimeter. Specialists from the Romanian Information Service were involved in examining the drone.
During the inspection, it was found that the drone contained explosives. No one was injured as a result of its fall, and there is no information about property damage.
Romanian law enforcement is now determining where the drone came from and when it crashed in the country. The prosecutor’s office at the Iasi Court of Appeal has been involved in the investigation.
According to Romanian media, the drone may be detonated in a controlled manner to permanently eliminate the threat.
As a reminder, on the evening of August 24 , two Spanish F-18 fighter jets were scrambled in Romania after military radars detected two air targets near the Ukrainian-Romanian border. Later, contact disappeared, and the Ukrainian side reported explosions.
As previously reported, a Spanish F-18 fighter jet, while patrolling Romanian airspace, shot down a drone that had illegally crossed the country’s border. NATO said the drone was likely of Russian origin.
By the way, on August 30, an aircraft violated Moldovan airspace from the Ukrainian side . The object crossed the border in the Dniester region and returned to Ukraine 10 minutes later.
