An unknown person opened fire in Kyiv: everything we know so far

An unknown person opened fire on people in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv. One person was killed and several others were injured, the number of whom is being determined.

This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine.

According to preliminary data, police teams and KORD special forces have been dispatched to the scene. Law enforcement officers are conducting a special operation to detain the attacker.

The police noted that information regarding the circumstances of the incident and the number of victims will be updated.

At the same time, according to blogger and volunteer Ihor Lachenkov, the shooting occurred in the Holosiivskyi district, resulting in one death and one injury.

At the same time, journalist Andriy Tsaplienko also reported on the shooting in Kyiv.

“A man with an assault rifle opened fire on people in the capital, he is already being pursued by the police. Residents of the Demiivskyi district are asked to stay home,” he wrote.

Footage of people injured in a shooting in the capital is also circulating online.

Later, Igor Lachenkov published more footage from the scene, filmed by eyewitnesses.

As of 5:39 p.m. , according to local media, the number of victims from the terrorist attack has increased to 4.

“This is just some kind of horror, people were just going about their business on Saturday,” Lachenkov wrote.

It is also reported that a shooter in Kyiv shot a young girl who was simply walking down the street.

According to local media, KORD has already begun storming the supermarket where the shooter is hiding.

At the same time, local media reports that a shooter in Kyiv set fire to the apartment in which he lived.

As of 6:00 p.m., Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that two deaths were confirmed as a result of the shooting.

“Five people injured in the shooting on the street were hospitalized in the capital’s hospital. Among them is one child. As well as the security guard of the supermarket where the shooter broke into and where he is currently located. The operation to detain him is ongoing,” he said.

Meanwhile, a video is being posted online from inside the supermarket where the shooter barricaded himself in with the hostages.

Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko reported that the shooter in Kyiv was eliminated during his detention.

“Special forces of the National Police’s KORD stormed the store where the attacker was. He took people hostage and shot at police officers during the arrest. Before that, negotiators tried to contact him. The number of the attacker’s victims is being clarified. There are dead and wounded,” he said.

Later, the publication “Ukrainian Pravda” reported that it had learned the man’s personal data. His name is Vasylchenkov Dmytro Vasylovich, date of birth – 04/21/1968. He was born in Moscow, has Ukrainian citizenship. Previously, he lived in Bakhmut, Donetsk region, and later – in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv.

According to preliminary information, the shooter killed people with a legal Kel-Tec SUB-2000 hunting rifle chambered for a 9×19 pistol cartridge, which can be purchased in the public domain.

As of 6:25 p.m. , according to medical officials, 10 people have already been hospitalized (including one child) as a result of shooting on the street in the Holosiivskyi district.

It is worth adding that Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that a child was injured as a result of the shooting in the capital and is currently hospitalized.

It was previously reported that on Thursday, April 16, a shooting incident occurred at a school in Transcarpathia . A 9th grade student pulled out a gun during class and fired, wounding his classmate. After that, the minor fled, but was later detained by law enforcement officers.

We will remind you that on March 8, a shooting occurred in Lviv during a conflict between two men. The victim was hospitalized, and law enforcement is currently searching for the shooter.
