EU High Representative Kaia Kallas and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres want to open the Strait of Hormuz, creating an analogue of the “grain corridor” in Ukraine.
This was reported by Ukrinform.
Kallas said that the other day she discussed with Guterres possible options for supplying energy and fertilizers to the Middle East, in particular by analogy with the “grain corridor.”
According to her, currently blocking the Strait of Hormuz benefits the Kremlin, and the EU seeks to prevent Russia from receiving excess profits and to promote the restoration of shipping in the region.
Separately, Kallas noted that the United States’ easing of sanctions against Russian oil is dangerous.
“It is important that tensions in the Middle East do not distract attention from Ukraine,” the diplomat emphasized.
Earlier it was reported that Iran had blocked the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf , a key route for oil supplies from the Middle East. The movement of oil tankers in the strait has been effectively halted, and ships have reduced their speed to zero.
As is known, in his first statement, the new leader of Iran emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed . According to him, this is pressure on Israel and the United States.
As a reminder, French President Emmanuel Macron announced an upcoming mission to gradually restore shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
