Analysts assessed the real pace of Russia’s advance in Donbas

Russia will not be able to quickly capture the entire Donetsk region, even despite constant attacks and slow progress on the front. Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War emphasize that the Russian army has failed to take control of major cities in eastern Ukraine and has already lost significant resources.

This is stated in the ISW report.

Experts point out that Russian troops remain very slow: their advance is sometimes measured in just a few steps per day. Even over the past three months, when the Russian Federation has achieved slightly faster local advances, the overall situation has not changed – the aggressor’s army has not come close to full control over the Donetsk region.

ISW notes that Putin continues to believe in the possibility of seizing the region – either by force or through negotiations, but these plans have no real basis. The Kremlin is spreading a narrative about the alleged inevitability of Russia’s victory in order to put pressure on Ukraine and Western partners and impose its demands.

Analysts say that attempts to establish control over the Donetsk region could turn into a multi-year battle for Russia, requiring enormous human and technical resources. Since 2014, Russian troops have failed to take key fortified cities in the Donetsk region, particularly in the Belt of Fortresses area, Ukraine’s main defense line in the east.

Earlier it was reported that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirmed that London is ready to send British troops to defend Ukraine after the cessation of hostilities.

We will remind you that after negotiations between the Ukrainian and American delegations in Geneva, the US peace plan for Ukraine underwent significant changes.
