The temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has once again lost external power supply. As a result, the facility automatically turned on backup diesel generators that ensure the operation of critical safety systems.

This was reported by Energoatom.

This is the 27th blackout at the ZNPP since the beginning of the Russian occupation and the 15th case of external power outage in 2026. The plant is currently operating thanks to diesel generators.

As noted by the head of Energoatom, Pavlo Kovtonyuk, regular loss of external power supply negatively affects the plant’s equipment and increases risks to nuclear safety.

“Frequent switching on of diesel generators leads to faster wear of equipment and increases risks to the safe operation of the station,” he emphasized.

Energoatom stressed that the situation at Europe’s largest nuclear power plant remains unstable. They believe that the risks to nuclear and radiation safety are increasing due to the actions of the Russian occupation administration.

The company emphasized that the only way to guarantee the safe operation of the ZNPP is to de-occupy it and return it to Ukrainian control.
