Another coin will be withdrawn from circulation: what denomination and when

From October 1, 2025, the National Bank of Ukraine will begin the gradual withdrawal of 10 kopeck coins from cash circulation.
This was reported by the NBU press service.
At the same time, the regulator will stop minting these coins.
The National Bank explained that every year they support the banking sector, trade and services with circulation coins. As of today, there are about 5.5 billion circulation coins in cash circulation. Of these:
1.4 billion pieces – coins with a denomination of 50 kopecks;
4.1 billion pieces – coins with a denomination of 10 kopecks.
During 2025, the NBU plans to put into circulation an additional 20 million 50-kopeck coins. This is due to the fact that demand for them in cash payments remains.
Instead, coins with a denomination of 10 kopecks, as noted by the National Bank, have actually lost their value as a means of payment and are almost not used in settlements. That is why their gradual withdrawal from circulation will reduce the costs of manufacturing, processing, transportation, storage and circulation of these coins.

Despite this, 10 kopecks will remain in circulation until a decision is made to completely withdraw them.
“Banks, as before, will accept coins in denominations of 10 kopecks from the population and businesses for crediting to accounts, deposits, letters of credit, or for making payments. However, such coins will no longer be returned to circulation – they will be withdrawn and transferred to the National Bank for disposal,” the regulator noted.
It will also still be possible to pay with 10 kopecks in the retail network.
If there are no coins of this denomination during cash payments, the rules for rounding the total amount in the check will apply. This rule has already been applied previously during the withdrawal of smaller denominations from circulation. Non-cash payments, as before, will be made without rounding.
What is known about the withdrawal of other coins
As a reminder, from October 1, 2019, the National Bank withdrew coins in denominations of 1, 2, and 5 kopecks from circulation. They ceased to be a means of payment in Ukraine.
In addition, 25-kopeck coins were discontinued from circulation on October 2, 2020. They also lost their status as a means of payment.
In the same year, starting from October 1, 2020, the NBU began withdrawing from circulation old-style 1 hryvnia coins minted before 2018 (golden color). They are gradually being replaced with new 2018 coins that are already in circulation.
As reported, the National Bank of Ukraine plans to replace kopecks with coins called “steps”.
