Another IPSO or a new front: what is happening in the Chernihiv region

Russian information campaigns are aimed at creating emotional tension among Ukrainians, not at their own audience. Such actions are an attempt to divert attention from failures in other areas, in particular in Sumy region.

This was stated on the air of “Pryamoy” by the spokesman of the Ukrainian Volunteer Army, Serhiy Bratchuk.

According to him, the enemy is deliberately spreading rumors about the preparation of an offensive, for example, around the Chernihiv region, in order to provoke panic and destabilize society. Such information “injections” are part of a psychological operation aimed at distracting Ukrainian forces and finding weak spots in the defense.

“This is designed precisely for the emotions of Ukrainians. It’s not even for the domestic consumer… Sumy region failed for the enemy, and it was there that the Russians talked about the fact that a buffer sanitary zone would be created. They did everything for this, but it didn’t work. Now we need to pay attention to another region in order to emotionally shake Ukrainians again,” said Bratchuk.

The UDA spokesman stressed that while the situation at the front remains extremely difficult in many areas, the Defense Forces are holding their ground. He called on citizens to practice information hygiene more often than they “brush their teeth” to resist enemy manipulation and continue to assist the army.

As a reminder, on the morning of December 4, Russian propaganda Telegram channels began spreading information about the opening of a new direction for the offensive, namely, Chernihiv. Some Ukrainian Telegram channels also began publishing this information.

Later, the Center for Countering Disinformation commented on the emergence of narratives about “preparing an offensive on Chernihiv.” This is additional pressure on Ukrainian society, as well as an informational imitation of the Russian army’s ability to “win everywhere on the front,” emphasized Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center.

According to him, the Russians do not have the real forces and means to attack Chernihiv. Also, the Defense Forces of Ukraine control the situation in the Chernihiv region, and enemy provocations in the border area are stopped by force.
