80% of Ukraine’s territory is still not covered by air defense systems that can shoot down ballistic missiles.

This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with Tagesschau.

According to him, he previously spoke about the air defense problem not to criticize partners, but to show the real situation.

“I will not say where our Patriot systems are located. But 80% of our country does not have such systems against ballistic missiles,” the president said.

Zelensky stressed that Ukraine continues to work on strengthening defense.

He also reported that even with the lack of systems, Kyiv, together with partners, is looking for funds to purchase them.

“Even if they don’t give us the systems, we found the money for them together with our partners,” Zelensky said.

The President said that he personally held negotiations with representatives of Germany, Norway, the Nordic countries, and Canada.

According to him, such systems are very expensive.

“They cost between 1.5 and 2 billion per system. And a missile costs between two and three million,” he explained.

Zelensky added that there are already agreements on allocating additional funds for these needs.

As a reminder, Germany announced a shortage of air defense missiles for further transfer to Ukraine and called on other European countries to be more actively involved in supplies.

As reported, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, upon his return to Kyiv, reported on the results of the Ukrainian delegation’s participation in international security talks. According to him, the partners agreed on new support packages, including the supply of missiles for air defense against ballistic threats.
