Armenia is preparing to formally apply for EU membership.

Armenia will soon begin the process of submitting a formal application for membership in the European Union.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced this from the parliamentary rostrum.

According to him, the question of possible EU accession should ultimately be decided by the people of Armenia. However, it is too early to hold a referendum—the country must first formally submit an application and receive a roadmap for the further process.

Armenia’s European integration is also linked to its membership in the Eurasian Economic Union, which enjoys significant influence. The EAEU countries insist that Armenia will have to decide between remaining in the union and moving toward EU accession.

Pashinyan emphasized that the final decision on the country’s future course must be made by the Armenian people.
