The Security Service of Ukraine, together with the National Police, detained four more people who were trying to organize the illegal sale of captured weapons.
In Kyiv, law enforcement officers detained a 57-year-old man who had previously served a sentence for murder. After his release, he organized an underground arms trade and involved a 65-year-old acquaintance in the scheme.
According to the investigation, the suspects were transporting captured weapons from the frontline areas of the east to the capital. They kept their arsenal in the basement of a private house. During the searches, security forces seized 56 small arms, over 5,500 rounds of ammunition, and a 30-mm automatic grenade launcher.
Separately, another dealer was exposed in the Solomianskyi district of Kyiv. He kept 15 Kalashnikov assault rifles in his apartment and his own car for further sale.
In Dnipropetrovsk region, law enforcement officers detained a 54-year-old auto mechanic from Kamianskyi district. He set up a cache of plastic, TNT with detonators, and boxes of ammunition in his yard. The man was looking for buyers via messengers.
All of the detainees were charged with illegal handling of weapons. The article carries a penalty of up to seven years in prison.
The seized weapons are planned to be transferred for the needs of the Defense Forces of Ukraine. Comprehensive measures were carried out under the procedural guidance of the relevant district prosecutor’s offices.
