Polish special services have exposed a foreign citizen who, on behalf of Russian intelligence, committed arson attacks in Warsaw and Radom. The 27-year-old Colombian has been charged with terrorist activities – according to the investigation, he acted on clear instructions from Russian agents. A similar operation, as it turned out, had already been carried out in the Czech Republic.

This is reported by RMF24.

An investigation into terrorist acts that turned out to be part of a broader operation organized by Russian intelligence services is gaining momentum in Poland.

According to Jacek Dobrzynski, a spokesman for the minister responsible for coordinating the activities of Polish intelligence services, a 27-year-old Colombian citizen set fire to construction warehouses in Warsaw and Radom in May 2024. Both attacks were committed within a week of each other.

The arson in the capital occurred on May 23, and in Radom on May 30. According to the spokesman, the suspect did not act alone: he received detailed instructions, including how to make Molotov cocktails and what vehicle to use to escape from the scene of the crime. He has already been formally charged with terrorism, and he partially admitted his guilt. Under Polish law, he faces life imprisonment.

The Polish Internal Security Agency (ABW) claims that the arsons were ordered, financed and coordinated by a person directly connected to Russian intelligence services. In addition, investigators have found that the Russians are conducting an active campaign through Telegram to recruit Latin Americans with military experience to carry out sabotage operations in Europe.

A similar case has already been recorded in the Czech Republic. In June, a court in Prague sentenced another Colombian citizen to eight years in prison for setting fire to a bus depot and attempting to set fire to a shopping mall. He also pleaded guilty. The Czech Prime Minister directly pointed to the involvement of Russian special services in these actions.

The revelation of such sabotage indicates the expansion of Russia’s hybrid war against Europe, where instead of the usual spies, recruited foreigners with combat experience operate. This creates additional challenges for EU security services, which are forced to respond to new, less predictable threats.

As a reminder, European and North American investigators have uncovered a malware distribution network. European investigators have issued international arrest warrants for 20 individuals, most of whom reside in Russia.
