Artificial intelligence helped stop poaching in Kenyan reserves: details
Kenya’s largest conservation areas have gone poach-free for a long time, thanks to the introduction of artificial intelligence-based technologies.
This is reported by the State Ecological Inspectorate.
The institution noted that modern surveillance systems with elements of artificial intelligence played a key role in protecting animals.
Thermal imaging cameras are used in nature reserves to provide 24/7 monitoring of large areas. The systems are capable of detecting the movement of people or vehicles even in complete darkness and automatically transmitting alarm signals to security services.
Thanks to the automation of surveillance, the response time to potential threats has been significantly reduced. This has increased the level of security in reserves and the effectiveness of the fight against poaching.
The State Environmental Inspectorate noted that Kenya’s international experience demonstrates the effectiveness of using artificial intelligence technologies to prevent violations and implement systematic environmental control. Such digital solutions are increasingly being implemented around the world as a component of modern environmental policy.
It is separately emphasized that for Ukraine such innovations are of particular importance in war conditions. The use of drones, thermal imagers, camera traps and artificial intelligence systems makes it possible to remotely monitor natural areas, record negative impacts on the environment and document environmental damage even in difficult and dangerous conditions.
