Southeast Asian countries have stepped up purchases of Russian oil amid limited supply and changing global energy flows.
Reuters reports this.
These are Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka, which are increasing orders for Russian raw materials.
The Philippines has purchased about 1.5 million barrels of oil for the first time in five years, according to the agency. Thailand has already held talks about direct supplies.
The Kremlin has confirmed high interest in alternative export destinations. At the same time, it acknowledges that it may be difficult to meet all demand in the near future.
Vietnam is also showing activity. During a visit to Moscow, the country’s Prime Minister Pham Minh Tinh called for expanding cooperation with the Russian company Zarubezhneft and concluding long-term contracts.
Sri Lanka is also negotiating stable supplies to support its own energy sector.
Analysts note that Russia is increasingly reorienting exports to Asian markets amid international restrictions, which is intensifying competition for its energy resources in the region.
It was previously reported that rising prices and easing sanctions against Russia led to an increase in the Kremlin’s revenues from oil sales.
Recall that the US eased sanctions for 30 days and allowed the purchase of Russian oil and petroleum products , which are already transported by sea.
