ATACMS and Taurus can thwart Russia’s plans: Syrskyi named the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Ukraine needs more support from the United States and European allies in the form of additional air defense systems, missile weapons, and permission to strike deep into Russian territory.
This was stated by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrsky, in an interview with The Washington Post.
According to him, new shipments of Western weapons — including air defense systems, American Patriot missiles, interceptor drones, and light aircraft — are critical to countering constant attacks from Russia.
Syrsky stressed that access to long-range weapons of destruction — such as the American ATACMS or the German Taurus — without restrictions on their use would allow Ukraine to influence Russian weapons at the production stage. This includes strikes on factories that produce missiles and drones, as well as other elements of the Russian military infrastructure.
“They are hitting everything — airfields, cities, infrastructure,” Syrsky noted, emphasizing the need to obtain ballistic missiles that would allow Ukraine to effectively respond to these threats.
The general emphasized that the very presence of such weapons is already a deterrent for the aggressor.
“I hope that thanks to President Trump’s position, this process will be much easier and… we will not have any of the difficulties that we had before,” he added.
At the same time, Syrsky did not comment on whether ATACMS missiles remained in Ukraine.
The Commander-in-Chief also recalled that the US permission for limited strikes on Russian territory using ATACMS, although belated, allowed for a change in the situation in the Kharkiv direction.
“We have all made a lot of efforts, including through public statements, to convey the need for such weapons and to prove that their use against targets in the Russian Federation is justified,” he said.
The Biden administration has previously refused to approve such strikes, fearing excessive escalation from Moscow.
Recall, US President Donald Trump plans to send military aid to Ukraine for the first time since his return to the White House . This decision will be implemented through the so-called presidential powers to reduce arms stocks, which were previously actively used by Joe Biden. The preliminary cost of the package may reach about $ 300 million.
As reported, the United States has agreed with NATO and Ukraine on a new arms supply scheme: American weapons will arrive through the Alliance, with NATO fully covering their cost.
It should be noted that the United States is preparing to transfer weapons to NATO allies worth about $10 billion, with the subsequent delivery of this equipment to Ukraine . The agreement, signed by US President Donald Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, provides for the transfer of the most modern weapons, including missiles, air defense systems and artillery ammunition.
By the way, Trump will soon announce an “aggressive” plan to supply weapons to Ukraine. The US may transfer the missiles it receives to Moscow.
In addition, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the holding of two important international talks – with US President Donald Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. The talks focused on strengthening Ukraine’s defense, the supply of Patriot systems, new weapons, and steps towards a just peace.
