European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Cos stated that after the scandal surrounding the legislative changes regarding the NABU and the SAPO, the European Union’s trust in Ukraine has not been restored.
This is reported by the European Truth publication, citing an interview with the official.
Kos, recalling the events of July 2025, said she did not understand why Ukraine would take decisions that could jeopardize the independence of anti-corruption agencies. According to her, such steps effectively closed the path to EU membership.
When asked whether it is possible to talk about restoring trust after the abolition of scandalous norms, the European Commissioner answered negatively.
She emphasized that trust cannot be quickly regained even after decisions are changed. According to her, once trust is shaken, partners will always be left with questions about true intentions.
At the same time, Kos emphasized the role of Ukrainian civil society. She noted that 72 percent of Ukrainians support EU accession, and the fight against corruption is among the key expectations of citizens, along with the issue of well-being.
The European Commissioner added that she would like to see such an active society in every candidate country.
As previously reported, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau confirmed the detention of former Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko while attempting to travel abroad.
We will remind you that on the night of February 15, while attempting to cross the border, NABU and SAPO detained former Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko .
