The US has uncovered a Russian network that, according to investigators, was looking for people to carry out attacks and assassinations in the US and Europe. Among the targets were Russian dissidents and people who support Ukraine.
This is reported by the BBC.
The US Department of Justice has indicted five men linked to Russian intelligence services and the RIS network.
According to investigators, they were looking for people in the US and other countries and offered them money for surveillance, attacks, and murders.
Among the defendants are Yuri Khrameyev and his son Kirill. The American side claims that Khrameyev Sr. was a colonel in the Russian special services, and his son served in the FSB.
Also in the case are Oemis Romagoza Durruti, Yaidel Delgado Suarez, and Ángel Eduardo Castro.
One of the cases involves a Russian dissident living in the United States. According to the investigation, Suarez found someone to follow him. They offered him between $1,000 and $1,500 for it.
Later, Suarez and Castro allegedly offered the man $40,000 to kill the dissident. The plan didn’t work, and Suarez began looking for other people to do it for him.
Another case occurred in Lithuania. According to the American investigation, in 2025, Kirill Khrameev found a US citizen who was supposed to monitor a person who was spreading information about Russia.
Later, Yuri Khrameev allegedly offered $25,000 for her murder.
Investigators also claim that Khrameyev Jr. spoke of an intention to attack people in countries that help Ukraine.
All five are charged with conspiracy to finance terrorism and could face up to 20 years in prison.
Three men are also charged with conspiracy to commit contract murder. All five remain at large.
