Austria exposes network supplying equipment to Russian military-industrial complex: how the scheme worked

The Austrian Directorate for State Security and Intelligence (DSN) has exposed an international scheme to supply Russia with sanctioned industrial equipment used by the Russian military-industrial complex.

This was reported by the Austrian Ministry of the Interior.

The investigation focused on a company in Vienna, which, according to investigators, was specifically created to purchase and ship high-tech products to Russia. These include numerically controlled machines and specialized metalworking tools.

To circumvent sanctions, the organizers used a network of companies in Turkey, the UAE, Hong Kong, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, South Korea, Poland, and Lithuania. Using forged end-user documents, they informed European manufacturers that the equipment would remain in third countries, when in fact it was being delivered to Russian enterprises affiliated with the state corporation Rostec.

According to Austrian law enforcement officials, the supplied equipment was used, in particular, for the production of cruise missile engines, combat aircraft, and other military equipment.

The investigation showed that purchases of industrial products for Russian military enterprises had been carried out since 2019. After the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, supply chains were transferred through third countries. Since 2022, deliveries to Russian defense enterprises worth more than 3.3 million euros have been confirmed, and the company’s turnover in Austria has exceeded 700 thousand euros.

In particular, searches within the scope of the case were conducted on August 20, 2025 at four facilities. Law enforcement officers seized about 40 data carriers, which are currently being analyzed by investigators.

It was previously reported that the United States had imposed new sanctions against Cuba, including eight officials, as well as five defense and trade companies, on the restrictive list.

Also, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy implemented the decision of the National Security and Defense Council to introduce new sanctions against the Russian military-industrial complex.
