Autumn 2026 could be warmer than usual across much of Europe, with climate models showing temperatures across much of the continent exceeding long-term averages.

This is evidenced by updated data from the Copernicus climate service.

The largest deviations from normal are predicted for western, central and southern Europe. This is where the chances of prolonged periods of warm weather in autumn are highest. At the same time, warming is also expected in the eastern and northern regions of the continent, but it may be less noticeable.

Experts point out that a warm autumn does not mean a dry one. On the contrary, in a number of countries in Western and Southern Europe, more frequent rains and wetter weather are possible than usual at this time of year.

One of the reasons for such forecasts is the development of the El Niño phenomenon in the Pacific Ocean. It can affect weather processes in different parts of the world. Although this connection is not direct for Europe, climatologists take it into account when making long-term forecasts.

At the same time, scientists emphasize that seasonal forecasts do not provide 100% accuracy. They show the most likely scenario of weather development for several months in advance. For now, the main signal remains unchanged – autumn in Europe has every chance of being warmer than the climate norm.
