Azot chemical plant on fire in Perm region of Russia after drone attack: first details

In the Russian city of Berezniki, Perm Krai, a fire broke out on the morning of October 23 at the Azot chemical plant, which produces, among other things, raw materials for the manufacture of explosives and gunpowder. The fire occurred during a drone attack.

This is reported by the Telegram channel ASTRA.

It is noted that drones attacked the territory of the plant in Berezniki. The Russian Defense Ministry, in a report on the events last night, announced the destruction of 443 drones over Russian territory. The summary also mentioned the work of air defense in the Perm Territory.

It is known that Azot has already been targeted. On September 11, OSINT publications reported on a previous attack on this enterprise.

The plant in Berezniki is a branch of Uralkhim and the legal successor of the Berezniki Chemical Plant. The enterprise produces ammonia, nitric acid, ammonium and potassium nitrate, urea, nitrite-nitrate salts and other chemical products. The plant employs about 2,500 people.

The company’s products are also important for the Russian military-industrial complex. In particular, nitric acid is used in the production of explosives and gunpowder. Among the enterprises of the Russian military-industrial complex that use it for these purposes are the Perm Gunpowder Plant, the Solikamsk Plant “Ural”, the Aleksinsky Chemical Plant and the Biysk Oleum Plant.

It was previously reported that in the Moscow region of the Russian Federation, explosions were heard in Serpukhov on the morning of October 22, where the 75th arsenal of the Russian army is located. The enterprise repairs and stores Buk and S-300V anti-aircraft missile systems. Information about the consequences of the attack has not yet been confirmed.
