“Banderol” instead of “Shaheed”: Russia uses new hybrid ammunition more often

The Russian army has begun to more actively use drones and hybrid “Banderol” loitering munitions, which combine the characteristics of a drone and a cruise missile, for strikes on Ukraine.

This was announced during a telethon broadcast by Yuriy Ignat, head of the communications department of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, RBC-Ukraine reports .

According to Ignat, recently, Russian troops have been increasingly using reactive weapons in various directions. He explained that the “Banderol” is a hybrid of a drone and a missile, but for Ukrainian air defense it remains a regular air target.

“Its flight parameters are similar to a cruise missile – about 600 kilometers per hour,” he noted.

It is precisely because of the high flight speed that the Ukrainian military uses both anti-aircraft guided missiles and fighter aircraft to destroy such targets.

According to the Air Force, most often “Banderoli” are launched from Russian “Orion” drones operating over the Black Sea. This is how the invaders mainly attacked the Mykolaiv and Odessa regions, although other aircraft can also be carriers of these munitions.

The Banderol (S8000) is a Russian loitering munition or small-sized jet-powered cruise missile developed by the sanctioned Kronstadt group. It is equipped with a 50 kg explosive warhead, has a range of up to 500 km, actively maneuvers in flight, and uses satellite navigation with autonomous guidance capabilities.
