The European Union is preparing a new package of sanctions against Russia. This time, the energy sector, banks, cryptocurrency services, trade, and even the fishing industry may be subject to restrictions.
This is reported by “European Truth” with reference to a statement by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
According to her, the new, 21st package of sanctions is aimed at areas that continue to bring significant income to Russia.
“We are focusing on the sectors with the highest impact: energy, financial services and cryptocurrencies, trade. And this time, for the first time, we are including fisheries,” von der Leyen said.
Brussels expects that the new restrictions will complicate the work of Russian companies and reduce revenues to the Russian budget.
The European Commission’s proposals must now be considered and approved by EU member states. After that, the sanctions package will enter into force.
It was previously reported that the European Union is preparing a new package of sanctions against Russia . Brussels wants to increase pressure on the Kremlin through oil revenues, the banking sector, and the shadow navy.
As a reminder, the European Commission criticized the US decision to continue easing oil sanctions against Russia , stating that this will only increase the Kremlin’s profits.
