Batons, beatings and hunger: SBU exposes colony warden who abused prisoners

The Security Service of Ukraine reported suspicions to the occupation “inspector” of the correctional colony in the captured Sukhodilsk, Luhansk region, who, according to the investigation, participated in the torture of Ukrainian prisoners of war for several years.

The person in the case is Oleksandr Shkorupat, a resident of Sorokyne (formerly Krasnodon), who after the occupation of the city joined the Russian invaders and received a position in the so-called “correctional colony No. 4 of the Federal Service for the Execution of Sentences for the LPR of the Russian Federation.”
According to the investigation, the colony held Ukrainian prisoners of war and resistance fighters. Investigators found that in 2022–2025, Shkorupat systematically abused the prisoners.
It is documented that during escorts, formations, searches, and forced labor, he beat prisoners with fists, kicks, rubber batons, and wooden sticks. After the beatings, the victims were deliberately left without medical care and were deprived of food and water for long periods of time.
The SBU emphasizes that such actions are a gross violation of the Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War, which prohibits cruel treatment and creating a threat to the life and health of people in captivity.
Based on the collected evidence, Shkorupat was reported in absentia on suspicion under Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – cruel treatment of prisoners of war.
The suspect is currently hiding in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine. Law enforcement officers are taking measures to find him and bring him to justice.
As a reminder, on August 7, 2026, the Borodyanskyi District Court of Kyiv Region found Russian serviceman Vitaly Razuvaev guilty of violating the laws and customs of war during the occupation of Kyiv region in 2022. The court sentenced him in absentia to 10 years in prison.
