BBC Director General Tim Davey and Head of News Deborah Turness have announced their resignations following a wave of criticism of a BBC Panorama documentary about US President Donald Trump. The White House had previously accused the British broadcaster of manipulation and distortion of facts.

This is reported by the BBC .

Tim Davey said he had decided to step down from his position due to “the debate surrounding BBC News”. He said the company had made several mistakes and he took full responsibility.

“In these increasingly polarised times, the BBC has a unique value and appeals to the best of us. It helps to make Britain a special place; kind, tolerant and curious. We must always be open, transparent and accountable,” he stressed.

BBC Chairman Samir Shah thanked Tim Davey and Deborah Turness for their “unwavering service and commitment to the BBC”, adding that the Board respected their decision and understood the reasons behind it.

According to Shah, Davy resigned due to constant pressure, including personal and professional.

Deborah Terness noted that the controversy surrounding the Panorama broadcast on Donald Trump has reached a level that is damaging the BBC’s reputation.

“The responsibility is mine,” she said, while denying accusations of political bias.

“While mistakes have been made, I want to be absolutely clear that recent allegations of institutional bias at BBC News are false,” Terness added.

Criticism of the BBC intensified after The Telegraph published an internal memo from the broadcaster, which stated that the Panorama program edited excerpts of Donald Trump’s speech in the film “Trump: A Second Chance?” so that it gave the impression that he supported the riots on Capitol Hill in January 2021.

The memo was submitted by Michael Prescott, a former external advisor to the BBC’s editorial standards committee who left the position in June.

As a reminder, American billionaire and special civil servant in the Trump administration, Elon Musk, stated that the media outlets Radio Liberty and Voice of America should be closed.

As reported later, Voice of America stopped broadcasting in Ukrainian . All employees were placed on administrative leave.
