Beatings, humiliation and forced labor: systematic torture of young children in an orphanage in Dnipro exposed

The systematic torture of six children aged 3 to 10 in a family-type orphanage in Dnipro has been stopped. Juvenile prosecutors have notified two parents-educators of the suspicion of torture committed by a group of individuals, and preventive measures have been taken.

This was announced by Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko.

According to the investigation, the parents used physical and psychological violence for years: beatings, humiliation, isolation, forced hard labor. The children were left without food, forced to walk on stones until they bled, sleep on a wooden bench without a bed, and shaved their heads for “disobedience.”

The children were interrogated using the “green room” method to avoid re-traumatization. They are in safe conditions, and the family-type orphanage has been disbanded.

Juvenile prosecutors of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office informed two parents-educators of the suspicion. A separate legal assessment will be given to the actions of officials of the children’s services, who did not reveal any violations during the inspections.

“Violence against a child is not “upbringing”. And it will not go unaddressed,” the Prosecutor General emphasized.

On Kravchenko’s instructions, control in the field of child protection has been strengthened. Since the beginning of the year, 122 people have been reported suspicious, 74 of them are employees of social services, rehabilitation centers, and educational institutions. Over 250 children have been removed from dangerous environments.
