Belarus and Russia are preparing for large-scale exercises: is there a threat of a new offensive?

The Ukrainian State Border Guard Service officially states that no direct threats from Belarus have been recorded so far. However, the situation may become dramatically more complicated in the fall due to the large-scale joint Russian-Belarusian exercises “West-2025”.

This was announced during the telethon by the spokesman for the State Border Service of Ukraine, Andriy Demchenko.

“In September, when the maneuvers’ activity reaches its peak, we expect a significant increase in risks. Our intelligence officers, together with border guards, must make every effort to obtain all the necessary information about the number and equipment of the troops that Russia plans to involve in the exercises,” Demchenko explained.

It is on these data that the further strategy for Ukraine’s defense will depend, the State Security Service of Ukraine emphasized.

Recall that the first Russian troops are already in Belarus , they will take part in joint exercises, the active phase of which is scheduled for September.

As reported, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin said that during joint military exercises with Russia, it is planned to work out scenarios for the use of nuclear weapons, as well as the latest Oreshnik system . According to him, this is an important element of strategic deterrence in the face of growing tension on the country’s western and northern borders.
