Belarus is building infrastructure near the Ukrainian border for the rapid unloading of military equipment.

In the Gomel region of Belarus, near the Ukrainian border, railway infrastructure is being built that will allow for the rapid unloading of heavy wheeled and tracked vehicles from military trains.

This was reported by the Belarusian service of Radio Liberty.

According to design documentation received by the Belarusian Railway Workers’ Society, separate railway infrastructure is being built near the village of Akimovka as part of the “Construction of a Test Site in the Gomel Region” project. The Military Design Institute is listed as the client.

The project includes an access road for 60 wagons, as well as a special cargo platform with a ramp for unloading wheeled and tracked military vehicles.

Construction of a new military facility near Gomel has been ongoing since late 2023. It is likely planned to house the 37th Separate Airborne Assault Brigade of the Belarusian Special Operations Forces, created in 2025 to strengthen the southern sector.

The eastern part of the site is designated on state cadastral maps as a “military town,” and the western part as a “training and tactical field.”

In June 2026, it was reported that construction of some of the military camp’s facilities had been completed. Currently, work is focused, in particular, on the construction of railway lines.

As a reminder, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry does not rule out meetings between Zelensky and Lukashenko to end the fighting.
