Belarus will hold mobilization exercises near the border with Ukraine: what is known

Annual mobilization readiness exercises have begun in Belarus, involving local authorities, military commissariats, territorial troops, and organizations.

This was reported by Radio Liberty with reference to the Ministry of Defense of Belarus.

The training will last from September 29 to October 2 under the leadership of the heads of regional executive committees. Participants will practice interaction during the formation of territorial troops and units of the people’s militia.

The program includes theoretical and practical activities. Special attention will be paid to officials of executive committees, military commissariats, representatives of organizations, and reservists of territorial troops.

Separate stages of the exercises in the Vitebsk and Gomel regions are scheduled for October 13–16. The Gomel region borders Ukraine.

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Belarus has been regularly conducting military and paramilitary exercises.

The self-proclaimed President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, has repeatedly claimed threats from Ukraine and other neighboring states, but has not provided any evidence to support these claims. Lukashenko has also said that Belarus is “preparing for war.”

It was previously reported that self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko ordered a large-scale inspection of the troops, including the practice of mobilization measures. At the same time, he stated that the Belarusian army has no intention of attacking neighboring countries.
