Belarusian hockey teams allowed to compete in international competitions
The International Ice Hockey Federation has partially lifted restrictions on Belarus and allowed three national teams to participate in international tournaments.
This was reported by the Ukrainian Hockey Federation.
These are the U-18 boys’ and girls’ youth teams, as well as the women’s national team of Belarus, which will be able to return to international competitions starting in the 2026/27 season.
The IIHF noted that they made the decision taking into account the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee.
At the same time, the Ukrainian Hockey Federation sharply criticized this step by the international federation.
The Ukrainian Federation emphasized that Belarus continues to support Russia in the war against Ukraine and provides its territory and infrastructure for aggression.
FHU President Serhiy Mazur stated that the Ukrainian side considers the return of Belarusian teams to international sports premature and unacceptable.
“For us, such a position of the international federation is unacceptable. We are preparing an appeal and will continue to defend fair decisions. Aggressor countries have no place in international sport at any level,” Mazur said.
The FHU also reported that they are considering the possibility of submitting official requests and appeals to international sports authorities.
