Belarusian opposition leader Svitlana Tikhanovskaya arrived in Ukraine for the first time on an official visit. She arrived in Kyiv at the invitation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy along with her team.

Tikhanovskaya’s visit to Ukraine was announced by Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga. According to him, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy extended an invitation to the Belarusian oppositionist to visit Kyiv during their first personal meeting in Vilnius at the end of January 2026.

Upon arriving in Kyiv, Tikhanovskaya visited the grave of Belarusian volunteer Maria Zaitseva, who died in January 2025 during the fighting for Ukraine.

“It was very important for me to start this visit by honoring the memory of a person who gave his life for the freedom of Ukraine and Belarus. Our duty is to do everything to ensure that the sacrifice of Maria and other heroes is not in vain,” said Svitlana Tikhanovskaya.

She also stated that Maria Zaitseva symbolizes Ukrainian-Belarusian solidarity and resistance to dictatorship.

Earlier, on May 22, Andriy Sybiga, commenting on Alexander Lukashenko’s proposal to meet with Volodymyr Zelensky, stated that Ukraine “has someone to talk to on all issues regarding Belarus,” and also announced Tikhanovskaya’s imminent arrival in Kyiv.

During her trip to Ukraine, Tikhanovskaya published a photo with a symbolic ticket from Ukrzaliznytsia with the inscription “Przemysl – Free Kyiv – Free Minsk.”

The Belarusian oppositionist’s visit took place a day after the massive Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities on the night of May 24.

Tikhanovskaya condemned the Russian strike and said that “terror is supported by the Lukashenko regime.” She expressed solidarity with Ukrainians and support for Ukraine.

As previously reported, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with the heads of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the General Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, the Central Military District, and the Security Service of Ukraine regarding the security situation and Russia’s actions . They discussed Russia’s attempts to increase Belarus’ involvement in the war against Ukraine and possible threats in certain areas.
