Belgium will provide an additional 100 million euros under NATO’s PURL (Priority Needs List of Ukraine) initiative to purchase US-made weapons and ammunition for Ukraine.

This was announced by the Belgian Minister of Defense Theo Francken.

“As part of the PURL package, Belgium will provide Ukraine with an additional 100 million euros in military aid this year, in addition to the 1 billion euros we have already provided. Russia is stepping up its deadly attacks. We must respond to this with one voice,” the statement said.

In turn, Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal thanked the Belgian government for its support.

“I am grateful to my colleague Theo Franken, as well as to the Belgian people and government for supporting Ukraine in our fight for freedom,” added Shmyhal.

Let us recall that Belgium has announced a large-scale aid plan for Ukraine : it will allocate 1 billion euros annually, transfer F-16 fighters and join in the restoration of the country’s infrastructure.

It should be noted that on May 26, the last of the 24 F-16 fighters that the Dutch authorities promised to transfer to Ukraine had already taken off from Volkel Air Base.

Earlier it was reported that Belgium plans to transfer 20 Cerber air defense systems to Ukraine as part of a military aid package for 2025.
