Trump is preparing a new offer to Putin that would provide benefits for Russia in exchange for a lasting ceasefire in Ukraine. Washington hopes to first reduce the intensity of hostilities and then move on to agreements with the Kremlin.

This is stated in the material of The Wall Street Journal.

This approach has angered Kyiv and European capitals. Ukrainian and European officials believe that Washington is making a mistake by trying to extract concessions from Ukraine when it needs to increase pressure on Moscow to end the war.

A particular concern is the potential economic rapprochement between the United States and Russia. Ukrainian and European officials fear that additional funds and trade opportunities will give the Kremlin resources to finance the war.

On October 14, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Trump’s offer to buy Russian diesel fuel made him feel betrayed.

“It’s a pity that we are losing a strong partner… We cannot be weak. Otherwise, we will not be able to survive,” the President of Ukraine said.

However, according to WSJ sources in the White House, Trump is still considering the possibility of agreements with Putin. According to them, after the intensity of hostilities decreases, the American president wants to offer the Russian leadership agreements that would provide certain political and economic benefits for Moscow.

What exactly Russia might get in exchange for a long-term ceasefire has not yet been announced.

As a reminder, US President Donald Trump announced an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the supply of Russian diesel fuel to the American and world markets . According to him, Russia should immediately supply more than 300 thousand tons of fuel, and later – several million more tons.

As reported, the United Kingdom, Finland and the European Union have reacted to the agreement between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin on the supply of Russian diesel fuel to the American and world markets. Representatives of European states and the European Commission stressed the need to maintain sanctions pressure on Russia and reduce dependence on its energy resources.

It should be noted that at the EU summit on October 15, European leaders plan to discuss new sanctions against Russia. First of all, they want to limit Moscow’s income from oil sales . At the same time, Donald Trump agreed with Vladimir Putin to increase supplies of Russian diesel, which caused concern in Europe.
