Bill Gates canceled his summit appearance due to the Epstein files.
American billionaire and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has withdrawn from the India AI Impact Summit in Delhi.
This became known several hours before his scheduled speech, the BBC reports.
Gates is currently in India, holding meetings on initiatives in healthcare, agriculture, education, and technology. Although his foundation confirmed its participation on February 17, the organization subsequently announced a change of plans.
Following careful consideration, Ankur Vora, president of the foundation’s Africa and India offices, will replace Gates at the summit. The organization explained that the decision was made “to focus on the summit’s key priorities.” At the same time, the foundation assured that it remains “fully committed” to working in India to advance shared goals in health and development.
The cancellation of the speech comes amid renewed speculation about Gates’s ties to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein , whose name was mentioned in documents released in January by the US Department of Justice.
At the same time, none of Epstein’s victims have filed charges against Gates, and his name’s mere appearance in the materials does not indicate proven wrongdoing. The billionaire previously stated that he never visited Epstein’s island or events and regrets ever meeting him. According to Gates, their communication, which began in 2011, was related to the possibility of attracting wealthy donors to charitable initiatives.
It was previously reported that the political future of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer was under threat amid a scandal surrounding the appointment of Peter Mandelson as ambassador to the United States.
As a reminder, in a trove of approximately 3 million pages of documents related to financier Jeffrey Epstein, US President Donald Trump’s name is mentioned more than 38,000 times in over 5,300 files. However, the materials contain no evidence of possible wrongdoing on his part.
