Billions in favor of the Czech Republic: refugees and aid to Ukraine bring profit
The Czech Republic earned more than it spent on supporting Ukraine. Former Prime Minister Petr Fiala says the state spent 91.3 billion crowns and received 104 billion.
This is reported by Ceske Noviny.
Fiala explained that taxes, social contributions, medical payments and compensation for military aid brought the budget 12.7 billion crowns more than the Czech Republic spent. He emphasized that the country not only did not lose money due to aid to Ukraine, but even made a profit.
The politician added that this refutes the fakes spread by the current parliamentary majority. The total assistance from all departments and ministries since 2022 is 91.3 billion crowns, but revenues exceeded expenses by the same 12.7 billion.
Fiala also emphasized that even the medical system is “in the black.” Ukrainian refugees brought 24.1 billion crowns to health insurance, and treatment costs amounted to 11.8 billion.
There are currently 396,000 Ukrainians in the Czech Republic with temporary protection. Another 80,000 have applied for special long-term residence, and 170,000 are working in the legal labor market.
As previously reported, Ukraine and the International Monetary Fund agreed on a new 4-year support program worth $8.2 billion.
