Black market in weapons: security forces have covered up several groups of dealers at once
The SBU and the National Police disrupted several schemes for the illegal sale of “trophy” weapons and detained nine dealers in various regions of Ukraine.
This was reported by the press center of the SBU.
Law enforcement officers stopped attempts to sell grenade launchers, Kalashnikov assault rifles, explosives, and a large amount of ammunition that the attackers secretly exported from the deoccupied territories and the combat zone.
Kyiv region
In the Buchanan district, two draft evaders were exposed who were separately hiding from mobilization and preparing to sell weapons.
A batch of RGN combat grenades and ammunition for small arms were seized from the first.
The second one was found with pistols, including a TT with homemade cartridges.
Law enforcement officers also detained a man in connection with an explosion at the Ukrposhta sorting center in the capital. In October, a parcel exploded during inspection, injuring five postal and customs workers.
Investigators found that a 52-year-old Kyiv resident gave ammunition to an acquaintance from Ternopil under the guise of “souvenirs.” Grenades, cartridges, and grenade launcher shots were found at his home.
Vinnytsia region
A local unemployed man was detained in the region, who was looking for buyers for hand-held anti-tank and underbarrel grenade launchers. In order to hide the weapons, he planned to send them disassembled as “household parcels.”
Donetsk region
In the Kramatorsk district, five dealers were arrested, including a conscript who had left the military unit without permission. Two separate groups were transporting weapons from the front and then offering them on the black market.
During the searches, they seized over half a kilogram of TNT, which they extracted from the ammunition themselves.
Law enforcement officers have charged all nine with illegal handling of weapons and ammunition. The suspects are in custody and face up to 7 years in prison.
The SBU and the National Police conducted special measures in Kyiv, Kyiv Oblast, Donetsk Oblast, and Luhansk Oblast under the procedural guidance of the respective prosecutor’s offices.
It was previously reported that the SBU and the National Police detained two foreigners who were recruited by the Russian GRU to commit arson in western Ukraine.
