Blackout in Moscow: is Ukraine capable of serious attacks on Russia’s energy sector?

Without the Ukrainian missile program, which was effectively destroyed in 2019 after the new government came to power, it is impossible to inflict serious blows on the Russian energy sector. Therefore, it is unlikely that we should expect blackouts in Moscow, St. Petersburg, or other major cities of the aggressor country in the near future.
This opinion was expressed on the air of “Pryamoy” by Ukrainian politician Volodymyr Omelyan.
“The Ukrainian missile program was dealt a very painful blow in 2019 – all funding was cut. And until 2022, no one even mentioned the need for missiles. Then they came to their senses and tried to restore funding and look for scientists, but this is a huge problem. We see that even the presidential company Fire Point, which everyone is familiar with, still has a lot of problems. They are not only ready to simply steal money, but they would also like to do something. However, it turns out to be difficult. Perhaps someone simply does not want this to happen,” Omelyan noted.
In his opinion, without the Ukrainian missile program, it is impossible to inflict serious blows on the Russian energy sector.
“I also believe that without a large Ukrainian missile program, we will not be able to find a way out of this war. That is, this is not the only answer – Ukrainian ballistics or cruise missiles. But without this component, when the Russians are hounding us every day, and we only say that we will also arrange a blackout now, and then we get carried away, because there is nothing to arrange a blackout for, except for this unfortunate Belgorod, which strategically represents nothing for Russia. If you want to take it away even tomorrow – no one is against it,” explains the studio guest.
“But in Moscow or St. Petersburg – no. In Russian facilities in the Urals? We are happy when we get energy facilities – but there are many other interesting facilities there that we simply cannot get to, because there is simply nothing to do,” Volodymyr Omelyan summed up.
Recall that for several months the United States has been supporting Ukraine in carrying out long-range strikes on Russian energy facilities . According to sources of the Financial Times, the information that American intelligence provided to Kyiv allowed it to strike important Russian energy facilities, in particular oil refineries located far behind the front line.
Meanwhile, emergency power outages were introduced in Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad, Poltava, and Sumy regions on October 13. The reason was the consequences of Russian attacks on energy infrastructure facilities.
